Behind the Remittance

To enrich the economy of Bangladesh, remittance sent by migrant workers has been playing a vital role for years. No need to mention that Bangladesh has a huge population which could be the asset and a very crucial determinant factor in the development process of the country. A lot of people are being overseas as migrant workers and sending a huge proportion of foreign currency every year which is a significant contribution to the national economy. Generally, it is a very informal and common introduction that we always like to give during the discussion on migrant workers; but we often skip the difficulties in the process of migration, struggle in unknown culture, tragic realities of
being physically detached from their family and children. The cruelty that they have to face during their lives is not reliable for all as it is so tragic. Actually, this discussion is about a little part of the abnegation of migrant workers who are working for the whole nation.

From Bangladesh, in most of the cases, poor people migrate to earn more to lead a much better life than how they are now. First of all, they face money crisis. To solve it they ask their relatives and other neighbor or familiar people for a temporary economic support. Often they sell some of their lands, trees, gardens, castles and other property in order to raise a fund which is much needed to go abroad.

Then, after getting the fund, they start to go through the procedure of the migration such as they contact to the agencies, training centers to be skilled or specialized in a certain sector of works. In every sector of the procedure, they have to combat lots of ambivalent realities. In addition, people are often being betrayed by some culprits who are cheating as media and by some of the corrupted fake agencies which have no licenses and recognition for the service. Being cheated these people lose their everything and started to lead a very uncertain life of sorrows which knows no bounds.
Moreover, no sooner had the migrant workers arrived in their expected lands than they started to face another problem; I mean the need for the job. As long as they take the time to find a job, they get many troubles from both sides their home and their present existence. From home, people who lent them money, they begin to ask for it, but as workless it is not possible to pay; therefore, it becomes a huge pressure. On the other side, as they have still no work, it is very hard to maintain the basic consumption cost like residence, food and so on. Therefore, these crises all together beget a massive pressure to the migrant. They are facing and fighting against it constantly.

In concluding sentences, it needs to be clear that remittance may bring agility across our faces but there are many brutal incidents, many cruel stories which we never know are being made behind it. The migrant workers are building our future. They are our real heroes who deserve massive respect from our heart.
