A large
proportion of the farmers of Bangladesh does not have their own lands to farm.
In most of the cases, they cultivate the lands of others on conditions of
sharing the production or a certain amount of money. The condition varies among
the areas of the country. Moreover, the necessary fertilizers, pesticides, and
other used technological services remain unpaid until the farmers bring the
crops, sell them and get money.
The farmers, however, cannot alone own and consume the production. They always have a pressure to sell the crops early to pay the cost and money of the owners of the lands. It causes a big loss for the farmers because they have to sell their crops in such a season when crops are available in the market. Therefore, they do not get a good price for the products. Often, the price what they get is unable to meet the need in terms of their costs. Thus, they are increasingly indebted to the fertilizers and service providers.
As a
result, they are being bound to get involved in other kinds of the income
sources. Thus, they are leaving the farming day by day. The national surveys
find that the proportion of the farmers in Bangladesh is being decreased
gradually.
